I played along with the sketch challenge over at Chic Tags (I am loving Ashley's recent sketches!) and I just wanted to share my interpretation of the sketch with you.
Here's the sketch:
And here's my take on it.
I started out with my American Crafts "Mayberry" mini paper pad and die cuts. I also had one 12x12 paper from the same collection. I knew I wanted to use this line because it is very summer-y and these photos are from back in the summer. I bought the "Mayberry" collection towards the end of the summer (I always tell myself not to do that, and then I do it anyway), so I have to back-scrap if I am going to use it now! :P
I had a little page disaster happen while creating this layout… Well, what happened was I had my side pieces glued down and I misted some new black mist I made… perfect. And then while I was wiping away some overspray off of my desk, I smeared one of the dots on the top edge of the page. Not so perfect. There was NO way to cover it up, so I used a kleenex (I always have those in my room, so I use them instead of paper towels) to dab the mist splotches around. I was going for a messy look. FAIL! It looked awful. I even took a picture of it so I could show you how baaaaad it looked.
To me, it looks like a Dalmatian dog. Dalmatians are cute, but not on my scrapbook page.
So I decided to start over. I used the same pattern of the edge papers peeking in from the edges (super cute, I thought!) but I used a background paper from the "Sweet Girl" collection from Echo Park instead of the AC paper. I'm keeping the AC paper that I messed up, though, because that's the advantage of double-sided paper!
I actually like the outcome of this page better. I like how bright this page turned out because it balances out my darker photos. Plus of course it helps that I didn't smear my mist! LOL
Since I used a Chic Tags sketch, I thought why not use some Chic Tags on my page?! So I included a couple of their tags.
And that's all, folks! Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteYour page turned out AWESOME, Heather!! I am always having some kind of mist disasters too...and actually had one yesterday! HA! But I think you made a perfect choice changing to the Yellow Wood Grain paper. It looks really great with the Pink from the Hello Again collection! You really rocked the Sketch!! Thanks for playing along with us @ Chic Tags!
ReplyDeleteHeather your page is gorgeous, very much Ashley-esque, I just love all the colour, and your take on the sketch is great. Thanks so much for linking up with us at Chic Tags.
ReplyDeleteLove the page. I hate when I swear the mist too. Plus, it doesn't help that I don't use it until everything is done. Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I think you were wise to not go with the "Dalmatian" look lol. Really cute & great memories! :D
