Shoot for the Moon

Alright, today is my first post for February on the Scrapbooking from the Inside Out blog. 

I have been stumped as how to share my SFTIO projects on my blog as well as do the "Behind the Art" segments for the SFTIO blog. But I think I have it figured out.

On Thrusdays (my day to post the Behind the Art segment), I will post the emotional thoughts about the project on the SFTIO blog and then I will give a little insight on HOW I made the project here on my blog. Maybe a special technique I used on my layout or something. 

So, without further adieu, here's my first project I'm sharing that I made with the February "Intention" kit.

On this art journal page, I actually die cut my handwriting! Whaaa??

Oh yes. 

First, I wrote my quote on a white piece of paper. Then I took a picture of it with my camera. After that, I resized the photo (so it didn't pop up HUGE) and imported it into my Silhouette software. traced it with the "Trace" feature. 

And this is what it looked like right before I cut it.

Valentine's Day Cards: Part 2

 I have a couple more Valentine cards to share with you. This time I made some mixed media- type cards. And my take on mixed media is using gelatos. Haha. 

So for this first card, I blended three colors of gelatos to make this super cute heart. Just a quick tip: I use wet wipes to blend the colors together when using gelatos. So easy and you don't have to wait for it to dry too long as compared to spritzing the card with water to blend the colors. I added some white stitching around the heart to bring some more texture to the card. I can't hardly make anything without stitching these days. :)

I also wanted the sentiment on this card to be something other than just "I love you" or "Happy Valentine's Day" so I used some little word stickers from Authentique to add the words "happy heart." 

I kept the rest of the card pretty simple just because the heart was so pretty on its own. White doily on white paper = so elegant. Sometimes simple is better.

And oh my goodness-- I just realized I made this card using NO patterned paper! :O That's crazy! I never do that! :)

Card numero dos. I used the same technique as on card number one to make the mixed media type hearts. I just freehanded them. This time instead of sewing around the edges (too small to sew!), I doodled little black lines around the border of the hearts. I stitched on the word strips on the hearts. (Don't think I forgot to sew somewhere on it!)

So there's two more Valentine cards. :)

I have a layout today that I made for the date stamp challenge over at Scrapbook Circle. Scrapbook Circle is one of my favorite places to go for inspiration and challenges! :)

For this layout I used two of my all time favorite lines-- Allison Kreft's "Composition and Color" line for Webster's Pages and Katelyn Shaeffer's "Hello Again" line for Carta Bella. I love nice textured paper and both of these lines have GORGEOUS thick paper. I have a little basket on my desk that holds bits and pieces-- tags, stickers, Chic Tags, etc. Just random stuff. But it's SO nice to have just some random little pieces to add to your layouts. I'm "trying" to use up my stash. 

I loved Audrey's inspiration page for the SC challenge. She used a date stamp and stamped it repeatedly straight onto the background paper. So, I used some yellow/orange ink and one of my date stamps (love those things!) to add the date to the page. It documents the date and then also adds a cool texture to the page. I will probably be using this in the future. I love the way it looks! :)

Valentines Cards Part 1

Hi there! I have made a few Valentine cards lately, so I thought I'd share a couple of them with you today! 

This first one I did NOT like when I first made it. It just was too "different" for me. I tried something that I had seen on one of my mom's potholders and it translated a tad different on paper… What I did was I sewed lines diagonally on a piece of paper that was lightly adhered to another piece of patterned paper and then I cut in-between the sewn lines (only through the top paper!) and kinda distressed the edges of the paper. 

I then added some chipboard pieces to my card. But something was wrong. It was too dimensional in all the wrong ways! Like, it was really simple, but yet the technique I used added a lot of bulk to the card. Plus you add some chipboard on top of the dimensional paper… it just wasn't cute. Then I posted it on instagram and asked for suggestions on how to fix my card and Katie said to add some bling or sequins. Sequins were the answer! I used some Lawn Fawn sequins (actually from their Christmas line) and that made the whole card better. It helps connect the chipboard hearts to the "Happy Valentine's Day" chalkboard cloud and also helped the dimension flow a bit better. Instead of it being REALLY dimensional on top of REALLY dimensional, there was a little go-between texture. 

So that's the story of my card! And it ended up I like it! 

I also made this card from THIS CARD that I saw on Pinterest. Simple, but cute. I'm totally loving the "Love Notes" collection from Crate Paper. There's just something about their Valentine lines that I ALWAYS love. Maybe it's because I love pink and hearts! :)

SFTIO February Kit Reveal

Happy 1st day of February! It's totally crazy thinking that we are already done with one month out of 2014! Time flies…

Another month means another kit from Scrapbooking from the Inside Out! Yippee! This kit is absolutely GORGEOUS. Take a peek:

This is just my photo I took of my kit when I got it in the mail. Aren't those colors just so BOLD and awesome?! I had to show Mom the whole kit (I do that when I'm excited about something I have just gotten.) and she said, "It looks like they know you!" Meaning, the kit fits "me" so well. I couldn't agree more, Mom. ;)

Most of the kit this month consists of Glitz Design's "Wild & Free" line (very bold and awesome!) and My Mind's Eye "Cut & Paste: Adorbs" collection. Also included are a couple of pieces from Hazel & Ruby's "Chalk It Up" line and a piece of paper from the "Chalk Studio" line from MME. Embellishments included are some paper clips from Allison Kreft for Webster's Pages, some enamel shapes and a tag from MME, some awesome Thickers, a whole sheet of alphas from Glitz, some chevron bling, photo transparencies, camera wood veneer and transparencies, and an awesome white Galaxy marker from American Crafts. Everything mixes together so perfectly. :)

This kit is called, "Intention." Scrapping all about what you're meaning to do, what you're aiming to do, what your goals are, etc. So fun to scrapbook about these things with it being the beginning of the year!

Just Lovely

I have a random just-for-fun page to share today! 

A few weeks ago, 3 of my friends came out to Alabama to see me! They travelled 10+ hours out here. Aren't I special? :) We got lots of photos that weekend… documents a lot of great memories made. Like, for example… sitting out on our deck drinking hot chocolate while it was, like, 30 degrees. (Ok, just to clarify, it was warmer during the day and we didn't think it'd be that cold out there.) 

So these photos on this page are from when we went shopping at the mall. We did a lot of shopping, eating, and talking over the course of a few days. I mean, what could be more fun than all four of us squishing into one photo booth for some pics?? 

Journaling reads: "You can't pass up the chance to take some photo booth pictures with you're @ the mall!" 

And this is my favorite part of the layout. I bought these wood veneer "potty people" a while back and every once in a while I use them. I thought it would be PERFECT to symbolize the four of us girls! I also love that it adds some awesome texture to the page.
